VERB TENSES

PRESENT SIMPLE ( rutinas, verdades universales, hábitos...)

a- She takes her son to school every day.
b- The sun rises in the east.
c- Tom doesn´t live in Madrid.
d- Do they likeEnglish?
e- I work in a bank.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS ( acciones que están ocurriendo ahora/planes futuros de agenda, citas etc.)

a- They are studying now.
b- What ´s he doing?
c- we aren´twatching T.V.
d- Mr. Smith is meeting Mr. Jonhson next Wednesday = El Señor Smith se va a reunir con el Señor Jonhson el próximo miércoles.

PAST SIMPLE ( acciones del pasado)

a- I bought a car twoweeks ago.
b- He didn´t buy a flat last year.
c- Did you go to the beach on Sunday?
d- We arrived in London at 14.30.

PAST CONTINUOUS ( acciones en progreso en un momento específico del pasado)a- Sarah was playing the piano at five o´clock yesterday.
b- John was cooking dinner while the children were doing their homework.
c- They were swimming when it started to rain.
d- What wasIrene doing when I phoned?
e- Elisa wasn´t reading when Isa came home.

PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE (acciones que comenzaron en el pasado y continúan en el presente: have/has + pasado participio (3ªcolumna)

a.- Susan has broken her leg. (Aún la tiene rota)
b- Pérez Reverte has written “Trafalgar” ( El escritor está vivo)
c- We have lived in Torrelavega for 15 years (Aún vivimos allí)
d- Theyhave been married since 1985 (Aún están casados)
e- I have never eaten caviar.( experiencia personal)

COMPARA LAS FRASES ANTERIORES CON LAS SIGUIENTES:

a- Susan broke her leg when she was onholidays (especifica cuando ocurrió)
b- Cervantes wrote Don Quijote.(Cervantes no vive)
c- We lived in Bilbao for 30 years ( ya no vivimos en Bilbao)
d- They were married for 15 years (ya no estáncasados)
e- I never ate caviar when I was in Moscow. (doy una referencia temporal)

PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS. Have/has + been+ ING
