VERBO TUBE EN PASADO

El verbo -To be-       
El verbo "to be" en inglés es equivalente a los verbos "ser" y "estar" en castellano. Su declinación en el presente del indicativo (simple present) es la siguiente:

Se suelen utilizar contracciones de estas formas:

Sudeclinación en tiempo pasado (simple past): Simple Past del verbo "To be"
Yo era/estaba (fui/estuve)                                                I was
Tu eras/estabas (fuiste/estuviste)                                 You were
El/ella era/estaba (fue/estuvo)                                        He/she/it was
Nosotros éramos/estábamos (fuimos/estuvimos)    We were
Vosotros erais/estabais(fuisteis/estuvisteis)              You were

El verbo "to be" se puede utilizar como un verbo ordinario y en este caso sirve para dar información sobre el sujeto:
I am old.              Yo soy mayor
The car is red.    El coche es rojo
It is cold.              Hace frio (el día está frio)
También se utiliza como verbo auxiliarpara formar las formas continuas:
I am running.      Yo estoy corriendo
I was running.    Yo estaba corriendo
Y para construir la forma pasiva:
The table is made of wood.    La mesa está hecha de madera
Otro uso del verbo "to be" es seguido de infinitivo y se utiliza para dar órdenes de una manera un tanto impersonal, especialmente con la 3era persona, o también para comunicar un plan:
He isto solve that problem.    El debe resolver ese problema
They are to help you.                Ellos deben ayudarte
I am to travel next week.          Voy a viajar la próxima semana









Pasado simple: 'There was, there were'
Es la forma pasada de there is/there are.
There was a chair
Había una silla
There were some chairs
Había unas sillasAl igual que en el presente simple usaremos 'there was' cuando el sustantivo al que acompaña es un sustantivo contable en singular o uno incontable y 'there were' con los sustantivos contables en plural.
Afirmativo
Hay que tener en cuenta que 'there was' y 'there were' no se puede contraer en la forma afirmativa.
Se forma con el pasadodel verbo 'to be' en singular o plural, según corresponda.

Negativo
El negativo se forma poniendo el pasado del verbo 'to be' en forma negativa (there was not/were not). Es frecuente el uso de la forma contraída (there wasn´t/thereweren´t).

No habían tiendas

Interrogativo
El interrogativo se forma con el verbo "to be" en pasado(was/were) seguido de "there".
Estas preguntas suelen responderse con la forma corta: "Yes, there was/were" o "No, there wasn´t/weren´t".
