NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT
The National Liberation Front was a political organization and army in South Vietnam established in December 1960 by all the anti-GVN activists and somenon-communists. The National Liberation Front fought the United States and the South Vietnamese government. Ho Chi Minh was the one at the front of the organization. The main purpose was to neutralizeVietnam and to overthrow Ngo Dinh Diem’s government because he had had avoid elections and reelect himself for a long time and his political decisions were not accepted by everyone. The National LiberationFront also wanted to reunite North and South Vietnam because the reason why it was first divided was because of Ngo Ding Diem’s ideas and one they overthrow him, they will try to unite the countryagain.
When the NLF was already established, a ten-point program was also included. It talked about Ngo Dinh Diem’s form of government and also about the replacement of the religion that Diem hadestablished for Vietnam. The strategies and tactics of the National Liberation Front were based on the support of the peasants who lived in the rural areas because they knew that Diem had took away theirprivileges and that they will support them. First, the NLF educated the peasants in economics and explained to them how poverty was related with the selfishness of the landowners. The NLF programpromised to distribute the land from the rich among the peasants. The main idea was to restructure the social order and to create a new socio-political organization in the country. In some cases, thelandowners were punished because of the way they had treated the peasants in the past.
Hanoi was associated with the NLF, and it was the one who directed NLF’s violent attacks. It was from Hanoi thatthe NLF learned more of war tactics.
