Virtual World
Online community offers numerous ideas that the actual community cannot. In the blog titled Virtual reality blog state; “Virtual worlds such as Second Life enable people to interact with others through avatars. Avatars are graphical representations of human beings and can be customized tofit individual requirements. These avatars navigate their environment, participating in activities and socializing with other people. Many companies and organizations operate in a virtual world such as Second Life, setting up their own offices where people (avatars) can meet and interact. This includes charities such as Contact a Family (www.cafamily.org.uk) that have set up their own office whereparents of disabled children meet, share information and provide support to each other. This is useful for those parents who are unable to get out and about due to the demands of caring for their disabled child.” For instance, the virtual world is a second life that the individual lives. By just sitting down and pressing keys an individual opens the doors to another dimension. Individuals arerepresented by robots who explore the avatar world. They get to meet new avatars and at times fall in love. In the same way, individuals who work every day and are busy can take a time of their own to socialize with others. It’s another distraction which helps them keep their mind from work. Also one that has not been able to accomplish their dreams or are not satisfied with the way they live, canrely on the virtual world. The virtual world can help them by organizing businesses, offices and even organizing charities in where they can give money and help individuals. Which can help them feel satisfy. Lastly, the virtual world can help parents who have a disabled kid by being able to socialize with others. Online world is a reliable source that helps each individual with their hectic life. The virtual world lets you release your emotions without being judged.
Likewise, Danielle 123 BlogSpot points out that, “The online community makes it possible for people to create their own made up identities and people. In the real world, people cannot make a person or change their identities. If a person actually tried that, they would probably get arrested. The online community also makesit possible for you to choose who you are and what you want to be.”Some may say that in the real world one can change identity but what they don’t say is that people judge one another. For example, the LGBT society faces difficulties in everyday life. Although these LGBT people change their identities in public they get viewed as unknown creatures, judged every day, and people don’t respect them. This is another reason why one may have a virtual world.Likewise, on an article titled “Alter Egos in a Virtual world” written by Ketzel Levine states, that Choi Seang Rak who is an economics and public policy professor at Dongguk university in Seoul, South Korea. Is mistaken as a little girl because he’s very polite and he has the voice of a little girl. A guy like Choi can be put in jail becauseindividuals including stereo- types will automatically think he’s a freak or a pervert. Also people that feel insecure, or happen to not have full confidence in themselves rely on the virtual world. For instance, Becky Glasure who describes herself as a short squeaky little Filipino voice who nobody pays attention to feels better when she plays the virtual game City of Heroes. She insists thatthis game helps her avatar and her feel confident. She states, “When I play this big guy, everybody listens to me, nobody argues with me. If there's a group of people standing around, I say, 'OK, everybody follow me!' And they do. No questions asked." This helps her feel happy within herself like at one point she feels much respected by others.
The virtual world doesn’t set rules or stop people...
