The fire alarm filled the room quickly. In the blink of an eye, helmets and uniforms were flying everywhere. I could bearly grasp thedoor-handle when the imposing mass of the fire truck gathered speed swiftly, swinging me off my feet. Little by little, the flaring lightsdazzled me. The madness around me grew louder and louder. All the possible answers that were spinning around in my head came out at once. Ablazing building towered above me. Out of nowhere, the desperate cry of a child startled me. Without thinking, I rushed towards theroaring fire and struggled to spot the defenseless infant. Already unconscious, I picked up the five year old boy from the ground and tried toshield him from the flames. There was fire all over the room and the way by which I let myself in was now gone. Trying not to panic, Istarted to look for another way out. It seemed an impossible task. To the right, there was fire. To the left, there was fire. Finally, Isighted relieved at a small window that led to the neighbour’s roof. There was no other way. I had to dash over the window and found myselfflying through the night. As I rose from the ground, I realised that my little companion was gazing at me trying to understand what had justhappened. But, there was no necessity of words. With a warm and cozy hug, we calmly descended from the building breathing once again.
