This book-report is being written for Alex Viloria and for my English class .I read the book “back todreamtime”. This book has 54 Pages and was published in 1999 and was written by H.A. Mitchel. The book has been translated into three languages: French, Greek and Poland. I read this book because itseemed very interesting when I check the summary on the back. Beside, because I am interested in indigenous issues and adventure too. On the other hand a classmate recommended the book to me.
The maincharacters in this story are Richard, a teenage Aboriginal boy raised in white Australian Society. Tom who is a Richard´s brother step. Also, their best friend Bradley, who considered himself as agood outback camper but he discover he need to larn more about it. They together will have an amazing journey of self-discover, mystery and adventure through Australian outback. They are trying to knowmore about his roots.
Other characters are: The Richard’s parents Joe McDonal and Sonya and his sister Judy. Also, Paul Aranda, who is the curator in an Art Gallery about rare local Aboriginal Art.He introduces to Richard with an Aboriginal elder who going to give more information him to solve his problem and in his self-discover process too later in the book. Back to the dreamtime is anadventure book in a present time. This story has different physical locations. For instance, the McDonal´s House, an Art Gallery and The Australian outback.
The story in the book develops a bit ofsuspended around an object. It is an Aboriginal wood carving “Tjurunga” as it is called. It is still used by many Aboriginal tribes in sacred rituals. Every male Aboriginal has a “Tjurunga”, when he dies the“Tjurunga” is buried with him. Thus, he goes back to the dreamtime; otherwise, his spirit walks the earth until he finds “Tjurunga”.
