Gerunds and infinitives:
A geriund is formed by adding –ing to the base form of a verb. Gerunds are used:
a) After certain verbs: They enjoy chasing tornadoes..
b) After prepositions: …thedangers of trying it alone.
c) After certain expressions: Rather than running…
d) As the subject of a sentence: Tornado chasing
Some verbs must be followed by an infinitive: People who want tochase storms…
Other verbs can be followed by either a gerund or an infinitive, but the meaning sometimes changes:
