WHAT IS A VOLCANIC
ERUPTION?
• It is a violent emission in the earth's surfacematerial from inside the
volcano. Except geysers that emit hot water and mud volcanoes, whose
matter, largely organic, comes from deposits relatively close to the
surface hydrocarbons, terrestrial eruptionsare caused by volcanoes.

All this we knowfrom Pliny the Younger, who even said that the inhabitants of the region were
accustomed to small tremors, and not alarmed. Small earthquakes began to happen since the
night of August 20, 79, untilAugust 24, the catastrophic eruption devastated the region ... by
chance, that date was Vulcanalia the festival of the Roman god of fire (and volcanoes) .
