She’s a revenge fuck, first time around.

It’s not that sheisn’t beautiful – she is, all blonde hair in tumbling ringlets and deep blue eyes and cheeks that flush when he kisses down her collarbone. But he doesn’t love her, not really, and in fact he doesn’t reallyparticularly like her, except for the physical side of things. He loves Katniss, and more than that, he likes Katniss, he identifies with Katniss. Madge is not like him, not like them. She lives in abig house and dresses in real lace bras and clothes that swish and swirl, patterned with tiny daisies and buttercups and birds.

She knows it’s a revenge fuck.

She still lets him do it, though,because he’s beautiful, all animal grace and the smell of pine, and she likes the fact that when Katniss chose Peeta, hundreds of miles away in some contrived cave, it was her that he went to forcomfort. And she likes the idea that her father would hate it, so she lets him lift her up around his hips against a tree just outside the fence (she likes that too, that added spectrum ofrebelliousness), her dress with the daisies bunched around her waist, and fuck her until she forgets the Hunger Games.

The next time, it’s a sort of relieved kind of fuck.

Katniss won, and Gale’s glad, reallyhe is, so fucking relieved that he wants to jump up and down – and he does, picking up Posy and spinning her round and round, laughing and laughing until he thinks he might be sick. But he’s alsoscared, that she’ll have changed, that the thing with Peeta wasn’t an act, that she’ll come back and she won’t want him anymore. Not that she ever really did.

So he runs and finds her and she actuallylaughs when he sweeps her off. She pulls him down a side-alley, just off the main square, and they actually manage it before anyone notices either of them are missing, and it’s sort of messy and...
