Student Scholar Travel Fund
The Student Scholar Travel Fund awards grants to undergraduates who wish to pursue independently initiated academic exploration away from DU.(The fund does not pay for off-campus study programs.) The Fund’s goal is to enable students to participate in educational opportunities that are not available on campus. The Fund specificallysupports students who:
• have qualified to present at a professional conference, or
• want to participate in an academic meeting
Please include your name, email address, class year, Banneridentification number, your faculty advisor’s name and email, and a current transcript.
The student should write his or her own proposal and review it with the faculty mentor.
The student shouldexplain:
• Where do you want to go? Why? When?
• How will your academic, career and/or life goals benefit?
• What background do you have that prepares you for this experience?
• Haveyou been accepted as a presenter?
• How will you present your findings at the Symposium? (e.g., a poster or oral presentation)
• Make sure you specify exactly what you will be doing at yourconference or scholarly meeting – what specific sessions / lectures will you be attending? How will they be of direct benefit to you?
• Stress the academic content of your trip
The proposalmust be written in such a way and with suitable terminology to be understood by academics from a broad range of disciplines (e.g., the PinS Committee). Do not be too technical!
This part of theapplication should be no more than two pages with a 12 point font.
Provide a detailed budget (up to $1500). Include cost of transportation, cost of registration, if any, accommodations, meals, andnecessary supplies. The Fund may approve some but not all budgeted items. Students need to justify all requested funds in the proposal.
