What Historical Events Changed American Literature?
World War II is another example of a historical event that changed American literature. In this war Europe went into warand Japan was also included. This time Americans based in Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Americans went into war directly joining the British army and they won the war. After the war ended it brought changesto the United States. The Americans dominated the world with industries until the 1950s. This war changed Ameican literature in a special way. People started to write about things that were importantto them and the used a lot of feelings on their writings. A good example is the story Breakfast by John Steinbeck. In this story he uses a lot of description of how a simple breakfast is, but if weanalyze the story deeper there is more feeling in it. After this war also gothic movements started to appear and a good example of this movement in literature is the story A Rose for Emily by WilliamFaulkner. In this story he describes several things that are not common and the story as a whole is really scary.
