WHO IS THE REAL MONSTER?

The novel Frankenstein is recognized as one of the most horrifying stories of all times, it is also recognized by the message that this young woman (Mary Shelly) is trying to send to the reader, this is a very profound and dreadful story that many people refuse to believe came from a woman that was only nineteen when she composed it.

The novel has many ideas for thereader to think on, one of the biggest themes on this book is the dilemma between the monster and his creator, who is the real monster? Is the monster the creature who is a cruel and crude killer trough out the whole book? or is it his creator who was so blind to what he was making that he didn’t realized what he was really doing, and then when the wreck was done didn’t take responsibility forhis actions.

I will try to solve the mystery that this novel leaves us, comparing the two of them and seeing them from different points of view. So again the question is: Who is the real monster?

The Creature
It is Victor Frankenstein’s creation; he is assembled from old body parts that belonged to dead people whose bodies Victor looked for in the graveyard.
When Victor realizes what hehas created he runs away from it in fear, leaving the creature that was “just like a newborn” alone. The creature in now alone and confused in a world where he doesn’t understand anything and has to integrate himself into, but this is only to be rejected by humans and loved by no one.
Soon the creature becomes conscious of what he really is and grows a hatred for himself and therefore for hiscreator, from this moment on the creature starts to seek revenge on his creator and commits many horrible acts.

Victor Frankenstein:
After many years of his life devoted to studying and hard work, he becomes fascinated with the “secret of life,” he discovers it, and brings a hideous monster to life. The monster proceeds to do so many awful things, that Victor is torn by regret, shame, and guilt, refusing to admit to anyone the horror of what he has created.

Soon Victor is trapped in different world, completely alienated from humans, he crosses to an animalistic way of living and dedicates his life to his obsession with taking revenge upon the monster.

Reasons why Victor created the creature:

-His thirst for knowledge: Probably one of the main reasons why Victor kept on andnever gave up on such a horrible task. Since Victor was a little boy he had always been interested in greater things and he always had this good but at the same time dangerous thirst for knowledge.

As we can see, here the author is trying to send us a message, maybe she is trying to say that it is not always healthy for humans to posses such a craving for something, to crave it to point where youbecome obsessed and blind to everything else that isn’t what you crave.
The thirst for knowledge is something that we humans are born with, it is impossible to separate us from it, but it is essential that we learn how to control it, and one of the ways to do this is simply being open minded, because when you close your mind and set it on this one and only “goal”, to the point where you becomeblind to everything else, then you are carrying yours self into a path full off disasters.

-Fame: Victor thought that by doing this he would gain some kind of fame and that he would be admired by his incredible knowledge and discoveries. He thought his father, siblings and friends would be proud and of him.

When we do something just because we believe it will provide us some sort of fame, weshould know that this is something self-centered and therefore nothing good could come out of it.

Reasons why Victor shouldn’t have created the creature:

-Assuming the position of God: When Victor creates this creature he is taking the position of a creator (God), he is now responsible for this imperfect creature that he so wisely created.

Humans are not supposed to be toying with this...
