Diversity in the workplace

The company has historically always been diverse which sometimes may be considered as a problem or a challenge that hampersorganizational effectiveness. At the same time WF faces a problem hiring employees who either don’t speak or read English or simply don’t speak or read it well. Whole Foods often prides itself on beingable to promote and create better opportunities for all employees; however it is difficult when there are some communication barriers. Because of this, these foreign employees often end up working inroles that don’t require as much interaction with others as some other roles might. Equal opportunity is being promoted since they have a written non-discriminatory policy in the workplace coveringsexual orientation, declining to engage in in activities that undermine the goal of equal rights, and offering diversity training but there aren’t enough tools available to help employees succeed.Performance appraisal
Whole Food’s appraisal system is very similar in nature to the hiring process and is completed every six months to one year. The process itself includes a formal paperevaluation along with an informal meeting that usually lasts an hour in which the differences between the ratings and any raises or actions that may follow are discussed. Many times pay is linked toperformance appraisals which can potentially cause problems if the process and tools are not managed well (Campbell). The main issue in WF is that often team leaders don’t have the informal meetings on time,where in some cases a year or more could go by and employees won’t get a raise or decisions are not discussed on time.
