Why do we kiss?

Kissing comes from our really old ancestors, prehistorical mothers may have chewed food and passed it from their mouths into the mouths of their toothless infants.

Humans kiss because it feels good, but besides that there is a whole story on why do we kiss. The big question is whether kissing is intellectual orjust something born by passion.
Most of us think that kissing is something just natural, searching love and passion, but the reality is that about 10% of the whole globe population doesn’t even knowwhat is kissing, so we can now inferred that it was something learned, something intellectual.
We kiss not only because we like to, but also we kiss because getting aside the biological factors, wekiss because ion this way our hormones can “talk”, exchange biological information. Sheril Kirshenbaum states at her book, “The Science of Kissing: What Our Lips Are Telling Us”, that kissing in themouth boosts levels of neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. So chemicals in our bodies are responsible for the symptoms we associate with falling in love. These neurotransmitterstrigger attachment between couples, and they’re also released in orgasms, and in a new parenthood they can also foster a lifelong attachment between mother and child.
Helen Fisher, an anthropologist ofRutgers University, says that kissing fulfills three essential needs: sex drive, romantic love and attachment.
Men and women kiss for different reasons. Women, for example, subconsciously prefer thescent of men whose genes for certain immune system proteins are different from their own. This kind of match could make their child to have a stronger immune systems, and better chances for survival.Women kiss as a mate-assessment device. And men, usually kiss as a means of gaining sexual favors, or affecting reconciliation.
