William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) Bio En Ingles

William Sydney Porter was born the September 11th of 1862, in Greensboro, North Carolina, as a child he spended all his time reading, form classics to dime novels, his favorites were one thousand andone nights and burtons anatomy of Melancholy.
Porter graduated from his aunt Evelina Maria Porter's elementary school in 1876. He then enrolled at the Lindsey Street High School. His uncle remainedas his tutor until he was fifteen, in 1879 he worked in his uncles drugstore and in 1881 at the age of 19 he became a liscenced pharmacist.
In 1882 he moved to texas where he lived in a ranch, inhis life in the ranch he learned bits of Spanish and german from the inmigrant workers in the ranch, He also spent time reading classic literature. Porter's health improved and he traveled with toAustin in 1884, where he decided to remain, Porter took a number of different jobs over the next several years, first as pharmacist then as a draftsman, bank teller and journalist. He also began writing asa sideline.
Porter led an active social life in Austin, including membership in singing and drama groups. He was a good singer and musician. He played the guitar and the mandolin. He became a memberof the "Hill City Quartet," a group of young men who sang at gatherings and serenaded young women of the town. He began courting a 17 year old girl named Athol Estes, but her mother objected theunion because she was suffering of Tuberculosis, but in 1887 they got married.
The couple continued to participate in musical and theater groups, and Athol encouraged her husband to pursue his writing.Athol gave birth to a son in 1888, who died hours after birth, and then a daughter, Margaret Worth Porter, in September 1889. Porter started as a draftsman at the Texas General Land Office (GLO) in1887 at a salary of $100 a month, drawing maps from surveys and field notes. The salary was enough to support his family, but he continued his contributions to magazines and newspapers.
