Self regulation is the major social pathology of our time.
Psychologists and philosophers have come to realize that most major problems, persona and social, center on failure ofself-control: compulsive expending and borrowing, impulsive violence, underachievement in school, procrastination at work, alcohol and drug abuse, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, chronic anxiety, explosive anger.
Studies have shown that self-control is one of the character strength that people were least likely to recognize in themselves. Conversely when asking about failings, lack of self-control was at the top list.
Return of willpower
Baumeister along with other researchers found evidence that self-control is a vital strength and key to success in life.(self-control was better predictor school grades, stable marriages, better physical health, less prone to alcohol and drugs abuse)
One cake won’t make you fat but in order to stay healthy andemployed you must treat every episode as a reflection of the general need to resist temptations, that’s where conscious self-control comes in.

Where Does the power in willpower come from?Small exercise of self-control was associated with big drop in the brain’s fuel of glucose.
No glucose no will power: the pattern showed up time and again as researchers tested morepeople in more situations.
Glucose reversed the brain changes created by depletion. Brain doesn’t stop working when glucose is low it stop doing things and stars doing others.
When peoplehave more demands of self-control their hunger for sweets increases.
Ego depletion: refers to a state in which the self does not have all the
