THERE IS / THERE ARE
"There is" y "There are" quieren decir "Hay" en español. 
"There is" es singular, y se usa con sustantivos contables e incontables. "There are" es plural, y se usacon sustantivos contables.

AFIRMATIVO
There is a book. (Hay un libro.)*
There are books. (Hay libros.)
*Se puede hacer una contracción de "There is" a "There's".  No se puede hacer una contracción de"There are."
NEGATIVO
El negativo es "There is not" y "There are not" y sus contracciones.
There is not a book. - There isn't a book.
There are not books. - There aren't books.
PREGUNTA
Para formar una pregunta nada más cambiamos el orden de las palabras.
Is there a book?
     Yes, there is.
     No, there isn't.
Are there books?
     Yes, there are.
     No, there aren't.THERE WAS / THERE WERE
There was y there were son formas impersonales del verbo to be (el sujeto es there, no una persona). Esta vez el verbo está en pasado, por lo que ambos se traducen por "había" o "hubo".
AFIRMATIVO
THERE WAS se usa para el singular, para decir que había una sola cosa.
Se usa con contables o incontables.
Example: There was a cat on the tree. (Había un gato sobre eltejado.)
THERE WERE se usa para hablar de que había varias cosas.
Se usa con contables.
Example: There were many people at the concert. (Había muchas personas en el concierto.)

THERE + WAS / WERE + …
NEGATIVO
Para formar el negativo agregamos la palabra NOT: THERE WAS NOT = THERE WASN´T / THERE WERE NOT = THERE WEREN’T.

THERE + WAS NOT / WERE NOT + …

Example: There wasn't a pen in thedrawer. (No había un bolígrafo en el cajón.)

Example: There weren't any students in the canteen. (No había alumnos en la cafetería.)

PREGUNTA
Para formar las preguntas sólo hay que cambiar el orden de there y el verbo to be(was/were).

WAS/WERE + PERSONA + … + ?

Example: Was there a good programme on TV? Yes, there was. (¿Había un programa bueno en la tele? Sí.)

Example: Werethere any new CDs in the shop? No, there weren't. (¿Había CDs nuevos en la tienda? No.)

AFIRMATIVO
La estructura del presente continuo (Present Continuous) en inglés es sencilla:
SUJETO + am/are/is (verbo to be) +  VERBO CON -ING (gerundio)

He's not [He isn't] eating. (No está comiendo.)
They're not [They aren't] learning. (No estánaprendiendo.)

PREGUNTA
Para construir la interrogación simplemente hay que invertir el orden del sujeto y del verbo to be:
