Good evening! The topic I am going to tell you about is weapons, what american people think and Charlton Heston. According to statistics, each year about three million crimes are committed around US.Unfortunately, some of those crimes take place at schools very often. We can see two clear problems in American schools: first of all, the excessive competitiveness that characterizes Americansociety which causes a great difference among students resulting armed-gang and a hostile atmosphere. The second problem, and most important, is that of arms. One student out of ten has brought a weapon toschool. However, some states have absurd laws like tie a giraffe to a lamppost (Kentucky) or the prohibition of giving the vacuum cleaner to your neighbour (Denver); but buying an assault weapon asthe one used in the slaughter occurred during the premiere of the new Batman film is legal. This type of events have led to a measure to combat this kind of activities called "zero tolerance", whichwill expel students with a gun from school. It had not been many attempts to reduce the problems caused by the purchase of weapons. The magnicides of the 60s such as the murders of US president Kennedyor Martin Luther King resulted in a debate on arms sales. Nevertheless, it was not until 1990 when Bill Clinton became president, he considered this problem. The result was that the Congress approvedthat law in September 1994 for a period of 10 years. Politically, this issue is very difficult to treat, because choosing to be in favor of or against weapons can result in opposition from pro-gun, aswell as those who do not want guns in American society.
