Break up of the former Yugoslavia

As a result of World War I Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes got together and formed the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. However Croatia, Slovenia, andBosnia and Herzegovina ha formed part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. After this kingdom was formed king Alexander made a royal dictatorship and decided to change the name to the monarchy to Yugoslaviain 1929. In 1945 after the World War II the monarchy becomes communist republic leaded by Jozip Broz Tito the prime minister, and now Yugoslavia is called the federal people’s republic of Yugoslavia.This republic was basically formed by six republics which were Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Slovenia, and Montenegro. Also two Serbian provinces were part of it Kosovo andVojvodina.

In 1980 Tito´s death made propitious the rise of nationalism among the different ethnicities in Yugoslavia.
All the way through here we can see that the major problem is the ethnic issue,and that the problem is a matter of castes.
Slovenia and Croatia in 1991 declared independence. For Slovenia to obtain its independence was easier rather than Croatia which took around 4 years to breakup. During the next year Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina also obtained their independence. Again for Macedonia’s break up was more quickly than for Bosnia and Herzegovina, because of its varietyin ethnic groups which were Muslims, Croats, and Serbs. Once more we can see the variety of ethnic groups that form these areas and that are the responsible of most of all the conflicts.

Alsoduring 1992 the United States didn’t recognizes Slobodan Milosevic government as the successor of the former Yugoslavia. Milosevic was the leader of Serbia and Montenegro which was the Federal Republic ofYugoslavia. Until 1995 there was peace by the Dayton peace accord.
