LEYENDA DE LA CAMPANA
 
Cuéntase de boca en boca, de tiempo en tiempo, que hace larguísimos años, que la mano franciscana levantó sobre una breve colina que mira al sur de la ciudad zacateca, y cuya falda baña el río de San Pedro, la primera iglesia para el culto cristiano y de la cual no quedan más que los derruidos paredones que sirven de recuerdo para los moradores y de admiración de losturistas.
     Síguese diciendo que estaba ordenado todo para la bendición del templo que sería el 29 de junio, exaltación del apóstol San Pedro, como a las 12 de la noche, oyóse un ruido ensordecedor parecido al de una lluvia torrencial, y al mismo tiempo, los millares de genios que habitaban aquellos contornos de la iglesia nueva, desprendiéronse pujantemente las naves, el Altar Mayor y la torrey premeditadamente la campana que debería decir el mensaje de aleluya de los moradores de aquella fiesta tan esperada, habiendo rodado la campana hasta las aguas del río cercano.
     Y desde aquella época tan aciaga para el pueblo zacateco, la sonora campana vive en un país de encantamiento próximo a la quimera. pero año con año, el día de San Pedro, a la media noche, se escuchan lúgubresacentos, invitando a los fascinados moradores a la todavía fábula azul, a la oración, a la oración que se debió de decir en los días de misterio del ayer.
