The texts “A Consumer’s report” by Peter Porter and “The horizon has been defeated” by Jack Johnson talk about life and superficially they seem to be the same but in a more depth view, both texts areabsolutely different in several ways. For example the authors’ attitude to life and the language that they use.

The main similarity that can be found between the poem “A consumer’s report” and thesong “The horizon have been defeated” is the fact that both texts describe life in a bad way. Both authors believe life is not as good as it should be and they are showing us, the readers, how theyfeel living like that.

Despite this similarity, there are many differences. First of all, the attitude to life that every author has is completely different, in one hand Porter explain how he feelsabout life but he has not more pretentions than that, it is just showing the reader that Peter Porter thins life is miserable in many ways but he cannot do anything about it, he is resigned to livehis life as other people told him to do it, this is manifested when he writes “although the instructions are fairly large there are so many of them” so this poem will make the reader feel miserable fora while but then, the reader would probably forget about it. Another important difference between these 2 texts isthe language used. The poet uses a very descriptive language with a formal register and without rhythm, regarding the time in which this text was wrote (1929) seems to be obvious that probably the...
