A JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH
A. BASIC FACTS ABOUT THE BOOK
I’m going to talk about the book “A Journey to the centre of the Earth”. This book was written by Jules Verne in 1864.“Alhambra” is the publishing company that I read.
B. TYPE.
It’s a science fiction book, and it is considered the first book of this type.
C. WHERE DOES THE STORY TAKE PLLACE?
The storybegins in 1863, in Germany, but then they travel to Iceland, where the adventure begins. Most of the work takes place on the centre of the Earth. The story ends in Stromboly, an island of theMediterranean.
D. TIME
The story is told by one of the protagonists, Axel, and it’s told in present most of the time, but sometimes, he speaks in past, as if he were writing a diary.
E.CHARACTERS.
There are three main characters:
AXEL, who is the narrator of the story. He is the professor LInderbrock’s nephew. He is a young men who is realistic and a bit scary.
THEACHERLINDERBROCK: He is a professor of mineralogy. He discovered the scrolls. He is an old man, he’s quite adventurous.
HANS: He is from Iceland. The teacher contracted him like a guide from this journey.He’s a young man, strong and brave.
Others characters that appear on the story:
MARTA: Is the teacher’s assistant.
GRAÜBEN: She is the goddaughter of the teacher, and Axel’s girlfriend.F. EVENTS.
One day, the Professor Linderbrock came home with a very old book. A secret was hidden in its inside: the way to the centre of the Earth. They guessed it and decided to go to thejourney.
To begin their journey, they went to Iceland, where they met Hans, who become in their guide. Everybody, were introduced into a volcano.
Once inside, they have various adventures, andarrived at some curious places like a beach or a forest of giant mushrooms, for example.
