A Memorable Event
I’m not sure because many of the sports events I have been to are all unforgettable, but one highlight was the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final, contested between Bayer Leverkusenand Real Madrid at the Hampden Park in Glasgow.
I was living in Toledo at the time I went to school, and my father, who loved Real Madrid, especially in that time because he considered Real Madrid tobe the best team in the world with the best football players such as Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Raúl, decided to attend the Champions Final.
The match was in Glasgow, Scotland, so myfather decided to travel alone because my mother hated football and my brother and I were too young and he didn’t allow us to come with him. However, on second thought, my father that knew I liked RealMadrid because I almost watched every match allowed me to go to that final, which so far have been the most exciting experience I’ve felt.
As we arrived at the stadium, suddenly we met my uncle and somefriends of him (I got surprised because my father had told me nothing) and headed for the entrance because the match was about to start.
To be honest, during the whole match I felt a bit strange. Ithought it wasn’t a good place for a young boy like me, besides at that time I wasn’t kind of football fanatic as my uncle’s friends seemed to be (I’m not even right now!). Anyway, the game wasinteresting and worth watching, just being in Champions atmosphere was amazing. My father told me that Real Madrid were regarded as favorite before the match. He seemed to be right because Real Madrid tookthe lead in the eighth minute through Raúl. However, it took only five minutes before Bayer could score and equalise to make it 1-1. I started to get nervous like all Real Madrid supporters becauseBayer was always holding the ball and attacking constantly.
