This painting was made between 1884 and 1886 by Georges Pierre Seurat. It’s made with oilon canvas, and its dimensions are 81.7 in × 121.25 in (2 by 3 m). La Grande Jatte is an island that is in the Sena River, Paris (France), and for many years it has had gardens and houses, without acity near in that time. He passed two years doing the painting with many schemes before he did carefully the original, keeping the lights and color.

Georges Pierre Seurat was a French painter andone of the fathers of the Neo-Impressionism, also known as pointillism. He lived in a modest family, and started to paint very young with the sculptor Lequien. Then, he entered in the school of FineArts. He studied the techniques of light.
He was one of the founders of The Room of the independent artists, were he influenced other artists like Cross, Dubois-Pillet, Signac, Rysselberghe...
He usedthe techniques of the simultaneous contrast to make more brilliant the light with shadows and colors.
The cubistic were interested in his investigations, techniques and paintings. Seurat made one ofhis most important works: The Bath in 1884 that actually is in the Tate Gallery, London.
