1. What have been the significant stages in the company’s development?

← 1943. When Jaime Sendra, head of the production for El Molino, proposes Lorenzo Servitje, Cake Shop Manager, to jointly set up aloaf bread manufacturing plant, they also invited: Jorba José and Alfonso Vlasco to be part of.

← 1946: The black bread production started.

← 1946: The cupcake and pound cake line started in the market.

← 1950: Bimbo used ¨38¨vehicles with loudspeakers to promote the bread ibn rural settlements and small towns.

← 1950: The brand MARINELA is a new brand for GRUPO BIMBO.← 1950: Innovation with the “cuchillo” campaign, they introduced a plastic knife in each large loaf bread package.

← 1960: The Bimbo del Norte Plant was opened in Monterrey

← 1970: Bimbo Del Golfo a new plant located in Port of Veracruz was opened.

← 1970: The products had the new logo: Osito Bimbo logo.

← 1970: Bimbo launches “Marinela” with a new cookie line.← 1980: Bimbo became a publicly traded company with 15% of its shares traded in Stock Exchange.

← 1990: Bimbo acquired a new bread and pastried plant in Guatemala.

← 1990: Internationalization.

← 1990: Gave a modern image to Osito BIMBO logo.

← 2000: Bimbo acquired the most important baking company in Peru that was Pan Pyc.

← SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: GRUPOBIMBO is the owner of different types of committed associations; and they are:

o Committed with your Health: Here they look for: Healthy products, education in nutrition and health, promotion of physical activity, aliances and research and exemplary enterprise.

o Committed with the Environment: Here the finality is: Power/energy savings, reduction of emissions, water savings, overallsolid waste management and entrepreneurial Social Responsibility relates to environment protection issues, which we address   through our civil organization: Reforestamos México, A. C.

o Committed with our Associates: they make things to improve the company to get better.

o Committed with our Society: here GRUPO BIMBO look for improve international operations, working in reforestationson forest and jungles.

← More than 150 brands, some of them are: EL GLOBO, BARCEL, LARA, Ricolino, Milpa Real, MARINELA, Tía Rosa, WONDER, Suandy, etcetera.

← 2010: The world leader in the baking industry and one of the best companies in the food industry.

2. What problems and issues confronted managers at these stages?

They confronted a lot of problems and issues inevery single stage:

← 1943: When Jaime Sendra wanted to opened this company they have the problems to decide who would be his collaborators and partners. Also when they as a group decided the name of the company could crate conflict because that was one of the most important decisions in a company.

← 1950: Take the risk of INNOVATION with the knife that they gave to the clients, andthe promotional item in their products, because this new idea could result bad, but they wanted to prove and it gave them good result.

← 1960: With the inauguration of the new plant, they confronted one risk and one problem. The risk was that this plant worked well and that the product continues selling well; and the problem was that in that time one of the founding partners Mr. AlfonsoVelasco announced that we was leaving the Company and he opened a similar company. So the Bimbo managers had to saw what are they going to do to fill that space with resources and made better Bimbo because the Company of Velasco was being competition.
