por Nicolás Maquiavelo
The Prince is preceded by a note addressed to Lorenzo II dedication, grandson of "The Magnificent" ruler of the second round of the Medici regime in Florence, in which Machiavelli exposed its intention to ingratiate himself with "Your Magnificence". To accomplish this task the ruler Machiavelli offers what he considers himself more valuable: his wisdom, the product of his experience as a diplomat and public servant.
To understand a little about the reasons that led to Machiavelli dedicate his work in the first instance who had banished from Florence, it is necessary to specify that the Medici had not taken up the government imposed a free people, they were considered the traditional rulers city and again occupied the top through negotiations and political deals, in addition, during the eighteen years who were ousted from power, many were eager to return. Machiavelli, meanwhile, never got to agree with the manner in which the republic was run from Savonarola government. With the first expulsion of the Medici, in the words of Machiavelli, the Florentine government bad "... it became bad ..." (Gomez 16), in such a situation, as discussed in the following sections of the work, the stability Florence would be better undertaken by traditional government, inherited, who exercised authority from its past history and heroic deeds.
The Prince is offered as a "little gift" with the hope that is thought to be found in the written key to greatness.
