GeographyMexico is bordered by the United States to the north of Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. Mexico is about one-fifth the size of the United States. Baja California in the west is an 800-mile (1,287-km) peninsula that forms the Gulf of California. In the east are the Gulf of Mexico and the Bay of Campeche, which is formed by Mexico's other peninsula, the Yucatán. The center of Mexicois a great, high plateau, open to the north, with mountain chains on the east and west and with ocean-front lowlands beyond.

Mexico cultureMexico is one country of many peoples. Just as in the United States, the society is made up of people from many different backgrounds, often speaking different languages and with different customs and beliefs. At last count, there are more than 50indigenous languages (other than Spanish) spoken in Mexico. However, Spanish is also understood almost everywhere.
Religion.Religion is of great importance in Mexico, with about 90 percent of the people practicing Roman Catholicism. The many spectacular churches, chapels and tabernacles all across the country are tremendous tourist attractions, and you can even find tours that specialize just inchurches!
Education
The education system in Mexico is excellent, with school attendance mandatory just as it is in the U.S. The national universities offer top-notch training both for advanced degree study and technical training. If you like going on vacation to explore a college town or two, you'll have plenty to choose from!
Mexico history.Mexican history hardly begins with the arrival of theconquistadors. In fact, Mexico has been settled since at least 20,000 B.C., when migratory hunters from Asia and Africa made it here. The full picture of Mexican history cannot, of course, be told on a Web page, but keep in mind three major influences and you will understand quite a bit.
First, the native cultures: The Maya, Inca, Aztec, Toltec and many other societies and cultures are ancient, andtheir language and people have survived the best efforts of European conquerors to eradicate them.
Second, the Spanish: After conquering Mexico, the Spanish understood a complete transformation of the culture, architecture, society and language. The Spanish spoken in Mexico today is the most obvious example.
Third, the Northern Border: Mexico's frequent skirmishes and wars with the young UnitedStates shaped both countries and enriched the cultures of both immeasurably.
Beaches
Mexico has over 6300 miles of coastline which contain some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Over 4000 miles of that coastline faces the Pacific Ocean and the shores of the Sea of Cortez. Glitzy resorts such as Cancun were created especially for tourism, while other beaches have slowly progressed fromsleepy fishing villages into modern resorts.
Manzanillo on the Pacific and Veracruz, on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, are both busy commercial ports that are also popular tourist resorts. Smaller beach resorts like Cabo San Lucas Huatulco and San Jose del Cabo are progressing rapidly into the realm of world class resorts. World class sportfishing is one of the magnets that draw visitors from allcorners of the globe to try to land a giant marlin or any one of the many other species of game fish that are abundant in Mexican waters. The small fishing villages that are rapidly disappearing from the earth still manage to exist in Mexico and can prove to be a great alternative to the more popular resorts. Puerto Angel, Playa Manzunte and Puerto Escondido, all located along the Oaxacan coast, and Mulege on the Baja peninsula are all perfect examples of fishing villages that have managed to retain the charming atmosphere that is getting difficult to find in this fast paced world.
