Marcoantonio Raimondi fue una pieza clave en el apogeo de las reproducciones, ayudó notablemente a extenderel Renacimiento Italiano por Europa, pero más concretamente el arte de Rafael, haciendo célebres algunas de sus obras.
Aprendió sus primeros conocimientos en su ciudad natal con Francesco Francia, representando sus dibujos. Más tarde se mudó a Roma atraído por la reputación de Rafael, Raimondi graba un cuadro de Rafael, “Lucrecia” que llama la atención al pintor y se interesa en que Raimondirepresentara sus obras, entra a formar parte del círculo de artista de Rafael trasladando muchas de sus obras a metal.
Marcoantonio Raimondi y sus discípulos siguieron grabando obras de Rafael después de su muerte en 1520, trabajaban sobre dibujos en vez de copiar obras ya realizadas. Raimondi fue brevemente encarcelado por el papa, por introducir elementos eróticos en sus obras, se vio obligado a...
