1. Presentation of the merger between Banco Bilbao y Vizcaya and Banco Argentaria ( who, what and why)
The merger between Banco Bilbao Vizcaya with Banco Argentaria was approved by the management ofboth companies on the 19th October 1999. It was considered as the second largest transaction of the Spanish financial market after the merger of Banco Santander and Banco Central Hispano. After thecreation of BBVA six out of the seven biggest banks in Spain were integrated into two groups able to compete internationally.

Why!!!!!
The creation ofBBVA settled this organization on the 16th place on the financial euro zone ranking by assets with a total volume of 222,975 Million Euros. It gained the 1st position between the Spanish Stock Exchangecapitalization with a value of 37,703 Million Euros.
The 18th December 2001 Francisco González was established as the only president of the company.

2. Impact on the stock exchange (same day,dew months after, 1 to 3 years later)
The CNMV (Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores) after the publication of the merger the closed the price at 37,703 Millions of Euros. This value was higherthan the BSCH, the most valued on the Stock Exchange at that moment, with 33,780 Millions of Euros.
Las acciones de Argentaria cerraron ayer a 21,69 euros (3.609 pesetas), con lo que esta entidad tieneuna capitalización de 10.636 millones de euros (1,769 billones de pesetas), mientras que las del BBV cerraron a 12,81 euros (2.131 pesetas), con lo que su valor en bolsa asciende a 27.067 millones deeuros (4,50 billones de pesetas).
