I. Study and read carefully the literary timeline on pages 4 – 5 to answer these questions:

1. What literary movement was occurring from 1750 to1800?
* Revolutionary period, age of reason.
2. What chief American authors expressed their views during this period?
* Benjamin Franklyn, Thomas Jeferson and Thomas Paine

* U.S constitution was ratified.

* Langstone Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Countee Cullen
5. Didmajor literary movements overlap one another? Give examples (4)
* Yes
* 1865 13th amendment abolishes slavery
* 1965 U.S. enters Vietnam war
* 1776 American colonies declare independence* 1861-1865 North and South fight in civil war
6. What historical events influenced the trend of realism in literature?
* I figure it is mostly slavery because it was a big thing andonce people stoped the slavery there came freedom and liberty which were a big thing in literature everywhere.

II. Read the passage from The Great Gatsby and the biographical information about F.Scott Fitzgerald on pages 7 – 8 and answer the questions on pages 7 - 8.

1. Well Gatsby’s relationship with the narrator is not much. You can see that evan though Gatsby see’s the narrator a lot hedoesn’t pay attention to him or her. Also you can probably imagine or even guess that the narrator does want to get noticed by Gatsby.

2. The narrator’s thinks that the Americans of this time don’thave “class” or “grace” he feels as though youth is to crazy spontaneous and/or dangerous.

3. Probably because he felts that the car would give him more confedence and he would get more notice inother word for the popularity.
