BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is a very common form of cancer and a leading cause of cancer mortality among women in the United States. Breast cancer rates in the United States are among thehighest in the world. The risk factors that will be discussed thoroughly in this paper are the following: Gender, age, genetics, and lifestyle.  Out of these risk factors only those that have beenproved to have en effect in developing the disease will be discussed.

Gender is the most important risk factor when developing Breast Cancer, as the vast majority of Breast Cancer patients arewomen. Breast cancer can affect anyone, despite gender, age or genetic disposition. However statistics show that women have a much greater likelihood of getting this disease. This is mainly due to thefact the women breasts produce more estrogen and progesterone. It is really important for a woman to be aware of all the risk factors surrounding breast cancer, since detecting the disease in the earlystages could be vital in order to eliminate the cancer. According to www.medicineworld.org, breast cancer is uncommon in males. Medicineworld.org states that the risk of development of breast canceris increased in females compared to males at a ratio of 100:1. Women have more breast cells than men and these cells are constantly exposed to female hormones that promote their growth.Aging in terms of risk factors associated with Breast Cancer, refers to the likelihood of getting Breast Cancer that is higher in older woman. The older women are, the more likely they are to developthis disease. According to the Breast Cancer Society two out of three women with breast cancer are age 55 or older when they are diagnosed and a woman’s chances increase significantly as she ages.Besides gender, age is the most significant risk factor for breast cancer.
