Persuasive Essay: Should children bring phones to school?
Technology is running faster than we think. And phones are part of this incredible advancement. Most people in the world have one:cellphones have become something almost essential for human beings, and kids are not a step behind. Surveys report that children between 10 to 12 years old receive their first phones. That means that from thebeginning of school, kids are already familiarized with them. Is this an advantage or disadvantage? Are mobile phones useful for kids at school?
In most schools kids with cellphones are a problem.Teachers are always taking them away and telling them to put them off, but what is the real problem with bringing them with us? The main argument that teachers give is that cell phones can be adistracter for students in class, that we have easier access to cheat, that they won’t be useful while we are learning and that we should be concentrated in what we are doing. But what if someone calls astudent because is an emergency? Or maybe if it is the other way round, and we are the ones who have to make a call urgently?
I think that main reason that cell phones are brought by children at schoolis to have a tool to communicate. That’s the first purpose of cell phones, that is why they were created. It is true that during all this years they had had an amazing improvement and evolution, butcommunication is still the main objective, and not because we are at school we have to leave away that opportunity. Teachers instead of seeing them as a negative device should realize that cell phonescan also be very productive when we talk about learning.
As 21st century learners I think it is important to start incorporating cell phones in education. Instead of banning the use of it, theyshould think of ways and teach us how to use cell phones in a appropriate way, and discover the potential that this devices have at the time of learning.
