Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa. (Arequipa, Peru, March 28, 1936). Writer, Peruvian politician and journalist. Nobel Prize in Literature 2010.
He spends his childhood in Bolivia and Peru and complete primary school contributes to the daily La Crónica and Industry. In 1952 writes a play titled The Flight of the Inca, which opens at a theater in Lima.
He studied Arts and Law at the NationalUniversity of San Marcos and begins to work professionally in newspapers and magazines, being editor of the Journal of the journal Literature and Composition.
In 1958 he was awarded the scholarship "Javier Prado" at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. A year later he moved to Paris, where he worked in different ways until it can enter theFrance Press Agency and, later, in the French TV Radio, where he met many American writers.
In 1965 he joined the Cuban journal Casa de las Americas as a member of its editorial board and remains there until 1971 In those years serving several times as jury awards the House of the Americas.
Later he traveled to New York, invited the World Congress of PEN Club, and sets up his residence inLondon, where he teaches American Literature at Queen Mary College.
During this period also works as a translator for UNESCO in Greece, with Julio Cortázar; until 1974 his life and his family spent in Europe, living in Paris, London and Barcelona.
In 1975 began a series of film work, and in March of that year he was elected Fellow of the Royal Peruvian Academy of Language. In 1976 he was electedpresident of the International PEN Club, a position he held until 1979.
In Peru presented the television program The Tower of Babel in 1983 and chairs the Case Uchuraccay Investigating Committee, dedicated to solving the murder of eight journalists. A late eighties enters the world of politics in Peru and in 1990 he returned to London, where he resumed his literary activity.
In March 1993obtained Spanish citizenship without renouncing Peru. Collaborate in the newspaper El Pais and cultural magazine Letras Libres.
In 1994 he was appointed member of the Royal Spanish Academy and later that year won the Miguel de Cervantes Prize; subsequently recognized honorary doctor at numerous universities. His work has been translated into more than 30 languages.

Pasa su infancia entre Bolivia y Perú y al terminar sus estudios primarios colabora en los diarios La Crónica y La Industria. En 1952 escribe una obra de teatro titulada La huida del Inca, que se estrena en un teatro de Lima.
Estudia Letras y Derecho en la Universidad Nacional Mayorde San Marcos y empieza a colaborar profesionalmente en periódicos y revistas, siendo editor de los Cuadernos de Composición y la revista Literatura.
En 1958 le conceden la beca de estudios "Javier Prado" en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, donde obtiene el título de Doctor en Filosofía y Letras. Un año más tarde se traslada a París, y allí trabaja en diferentes medios hasta que lograentrar en la Agencia France Press y, más tarde, en la Radio Televisión Francesa, donde conoce a numerosos escritores hispanoamericanos.
En 1965 se integra en la revista cubana Casa de las Américas como miembro de su consejo de redacción y permanece en ella hasta 1971. En esos años actúa varias veces como jurado de los premios Casa de las Américas.
Posteriormente viaja a Nueva York, invitado alCongreso Mundial del PEN Club, e instala su residencia en Londres, donde trabaja como profesor de Literatura Hispanoamericana en el Queen Mary College.
Durante este periodo trabaja además como traductor para la UNESCO en Grecia, junto a Julio Cortázar; hasta 1974 su vida y la de su familia transcurre en Europa, residiendo en París, Londres y Barcelona.
