Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to prove that Daisy Miller´s behavior was too modern for her times and thus scandalized the Victorian society.
Plot synopsis
Annie "Daisy"Miller and Frederick Winterbourne first meet in Vevey, Switzerland, in a garden of the grand hotel where Winterbourne is vacationing with her aunt. They are introduced by Daisy's 9-yearold brother, Randolph. Randolph believes their birthplace of Schenectady, New York, to be better to all of Europe. Daisy, however, is absolutely charmed with the continent, especially thehigh society which she wishes to enter.
Winterbourne is at first confused by her behavior, although greatly overwhelmed by her beauty, but then he was inclined to think about her as aflirt. In spite of the disapproval of his aunt Mrs. Costello, Winterbourne continues looking for Daisy. But one day Winterbourne informs Daisy that he must go to Geneva the next day. Daisyfeels disappointed but eventually asks him to visit her in Rome next year.
In Rome, Winterbourne and Daisy meet unexpectedly in the parlor of Mrs. Walker, an American expatriate who isat the center of Rome’s fashionable society. Meanwhile Daisy has been meeting with fortune hunters; especially one called Giovanelli, and has become the talk of the town. Winterbourneand Mrs. Walker attempt to persuade Daisy to care about her reputation but she doesn´t listen to them.
One night, Winterbourne passes by the Coliseum and, at its center, sees Giovanelliand Daisy sitting there. Winterbourne, enraged with Giovanelli, asks him why he took Daisy to a place where she could get "Roman Fever“. Daisy says she does not care and Winterbourneleaves them. Few days later, Daisy falls ill, and dies leaving a message to her mother saying that she cared about Winterbourne. Winterbourne returns to Geneva and continues his former life.
