My continuous interest in the defence, protection and promotion of human rights in a world where populations are so vulnerable, has driven me to work as a lawyer. This subject interests me as it isof importance for the whole humanity and man's inexhaustible battle for the recognition of life, integrity, freedom, work, security and other fundamental rights that dignify him and make him a person,against all tyranny and repression.
I worked for the safeguard of human rights in Colombia during 5 years. At that time I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of importantorganizations such as, Red Cross and High Commissioner of Refugees, also I worked at the Colombian Government for the protection of populations at risk, like indigenous tribes, leaders, afro- Caribbeancommunities, teachers, displaced families and trade unionist.
In the realm of Human Rights, I could develop important skills to work for different types of communities by protecting their fundamental rights.Furthermore, I built up a strong character which made me to carry out a relevant work, despite of the difficulties and violations in which civilians have been involved.
Regarding to my experience inthe protection of these inherent rights in a country like Colombia, I could observe, the vulnerabilities that grow every day, through sources of inequality and power. In addition to this, the deepbreach between the wealthy and poor has expanded with time, without control and has created vast poverty throughout the country.
From my knowledge as a defender of human rights and someone who used towork so closely with the victims of the aggression in Colombia, could see that the thought of freedom and expression is limited. Journalists are at risk as a result of articles against the internalconflict; as are leaders, who are working for the proclamation of human integrity.
