The miguelete

The migueletes (Catalan, micalets or miquelets) were members of the militia or volunteer mercenary character, recruited by councils and boards of the Crown of Aragon (mainly in theregions of Catalonia and the Kingdom of Valencia) for actions Special or reinforcement of regular forces. The miguelete, as such, is the name given to a mercenary Catalan during the War Reapers, thearmed conflict between the Government of Catalonia with King Philip IV during the conflict centralizing program initiated by the Count-Duke of Olivares (the Union de Armas). From this comes the term torefer to the body migueletes armed paradoxically survived this war and popularized the Principality of Catalonia between the XVII-XIX. Keep in mind that this armed Catalan has no relationship with theprovincial migueletes Navarre, Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya (abolished in 1846).
In Andalusia called migueletes to specialized battalions of soldiers sent by King Ferdinand VII of Spain south to combatbanditry from the third decade of the nineteenth century.

The body of migueletes was founded in 1640 during the War Reapers, with the aim of halting theSpanish invasion of Philip IV, with the name of Companyia d'Almogàvers ('almogávares Company'), by Francesc de Cabanyes, and received the nickname "migueletes" by the name of one of its early leaders,Miquelot Prats (possibly a neighbor of Prats de Llusanés). During the war decimated and rejected the Castilian army in Tortosa and Cambrils, Constantí recovered, freed 300 prisoners participated inCatalan and the victory of the Battle of Montjuïc the January 26, 1641 and Montblanch. It was an armed body that was formed at the initiative of war boards and councils in 1640, primarily as an auxiliaryforce aimed particularly special actions in support of regular troops.
