Elements and/or traditions identifying Dominican Culture

BELIEFS

-Galipotes:
According to popular beliefs, witches or wizards have the ability to turn people into animals for their ownprotection or to make their job better; they are The Galipotes.

-Drones:
Drones have the same ability as galipotes, but they differ of them in the way they walk, walking with strides. Both havealso in common they like to appear at night to scare people and all sort of knavery.

-Bacá:
When someone starts having a successful progress in its economy in a fast and in a less understandingway, people comment that it’s thanks they have a baca.

People get it when they make a pact with the evil, who will give them wealth and property, getting punishment pain, illnesses, misfortunesand slowly losing their loved ones, family and closed friends, ending up with yourself.

-May’s water:
The first May’s rain it’s considered as magic. When it’s raining people collect it with theirhands and pass over their faces as plunder of purification, with beliefs of removing wrinkles and rejuvenating properties.

-Water boatmen:
Those people have the ability of streamline rains,making them fall or not in determinate places that shouldn’t be raining because of agricultural purposes; inclusive, they can, according with people beliefs, walk through the rain y don’t get wet.-The ciguapa:
It’s believed that at night, gets out of the woods a long hair beautiful woman, but with her feet turn back, it’s called “The Ciguapa”, who its completely harmless, extremely shy,even she can get scared by people.

-Witches:
According to popular beliefs, there usually appear witches, who can travel long distances on a flying broom and enjoy doing damage and scaringpeople.

Their weakness is children, whom they are sucking blood through the navel or the big toe to death. If the child is baptized, when they suck their big toes, the witch begins vomiting blood.
