Medical Ethics in Nazi Germany
Nazi Germany is known for its attempt at creating the perfect society which meant abolishing another if it meant that there were going to be thousands of casualties, and then it was meant to be. The Nazis were trying to make a dominant race in the world which by all ethical means was wrong. They were also known for preventing many people from procreating by makingthem sterile. This was the first use of eugenics by the Nazis; Eugenics is a science that relates to the supervision of mating in order to improve the qualities of the races, or breed. The original idea of the Nazis was to keep the white race clean and not “tainted” by another race.
The Third Reich took over while the country was in a depression; the political party took advantage of thepeople’s morality to storm in with their charismatic and passionate speeches. Adolf Hitler was an advocate of the Aryan race’s superiority over all other races, this lead him to use the Jews was scapegoats and blame all the blunders on them, and few others not of Caucasian descent. “Whoever undertakes to artificially block the natural fertility of the German volk to the detriment of the German nation, orpromotes such endeavors by word, publication, picture or any other means, or who mixing with members of the Jewish blood-community of colored races contribute to the racial deterioration and decomposition of the German volk, or threatens to contribute to such endeavors, will be punished with a penitentiary sentence for racial treason” Hitler criticized abortion because he believed that the Germanrace was no to be stopped from recreating. The only problem was that Hitler did not approve of Germans polluting their bloodlines with Jews or colored people.
Nazis had a mindset, in order for the success of the Nazi race they had to maintain “natural selection” with all citizens in order of the race to progress further. This is why Germans believed that the only acceptable way to procreatewas for a German woman and a German man. Arthur Ploetz was the founder of the German eugenics journal and central figure of eugenics movement, Ploetz was a man who did not believe in a single dominant race. He was not interested in the business area of the eugenics movement; he believed that both Socialist and Capitalist contradicted the principles of Eugenics. “He (Ploetz) wanted to ensure thateach generation consisted of genetically healthy individuals by having each married couple select the “best” of their own germ cells for fertilization.”
The Nazis were set on maintaining their superiority and to accomplish this they hat to perform experiments on prisoners of death camps. These experiments were conducted by Josef Mengele, a doctor who studied medicine and anthropology at theUniversity of Munich, during the year 1935 Mengele was awarded a Ph.D. from Munich. He worked all over for the German tyranny. He was an SS physician who went around conquered land and figured out if the people in the area were suitable to mate with the almighty Germans. Mengele sterilized any Jew he found along the way on his trips, he also performed many unspeakably cruel experiments on prisoners ofdeath camps “People were maimed and killed solely for the purpose of these experiments and studies.” The population of Auschwitz was in the millions, this made the experiments virtually unnoticeable to the guards since there were masses of inmates coming in and out.
The Third Reich released a set of rules that would stop the reproduction of the Jew described as being “destroyers of the culture”by many writers and physicians of the time. The Nuremberg Laws, these laws prohibited a person of Jewish religion to have a relationship or mate with a German citizen. The laws also stopped Jews from becoming citizens during the Third Reich’s regime. These were times of horrific terror for Jews, another law was that they had to carry their passports with them at all times for identification and...
