People are not aware that nowadays the Food pyramid is out, and the EAT WELL plate is in. Michelle Obama introduced this in 2011, and she thinks it’s a good idea to solving America’s obesity problem.The idea is to replace a pyramid with a plate. It allows people to understand how much of which foods we should be eating. The problem with the pyramid was that it was difficult for people tounderstand that the foods in the higher end of the triangle are those that should be consumed in moderation or rarely.

The food plate is divided into five parts.
1. Fruit and vegetables: It should be33% of your plate. We should be eating at least five portions of fruits and vegetables every day. It includes tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, apples and kiwis, for exampl. The advantages of fruits andvegetables are:
a. Fruits and vegetables taste delicious.
b. They are a good source of vitamins and minerals (including Vitamin C and potassium)
c. They are an excellent source ofdietary fibre, reducing the risk of cancer and heart diseases.
2. Potatoes, bread and pasta and other starchy food: It should be 33% of your plate. Starchy foods are a good source of energy andthe main source of a range of nutrients in our diet. As well as starch, they contain fibre, calcium, iron and B vitamins. Some people think starchy foods are fattening, but they contain fewer than halfthe calories of fat.
3. Milk and Dairy goods:It should be 15% of your diet. Milk and dairy products such as cheese (from cows, and goats), yogurt, butter, cream and milk are great sources ofprotein and calcium. Calcium helps to keep our bones strong. Choose lower-fat milk and dairy foods.
4. Some meat, fish, eggs, beans, and other sources of protein: It should be 12% of your plate. Meatis a good source of protein, as well as vitamins and minerals. But some meats are high in saturated fats, which can raise blood cholesterol levels. Meats such as chicken, pork, lamb and beef are...
