FRONTPAGE

Before programs like Front Page hit the scene, you had to create and work with Web pages by fiddling with HTML. Until recently, you had to know to create a Web page. Although memorizing tags is not difficult, doing so does take time. Then programs like FrontPage came along.

FrontPage is a friendly software and easy to use Web site creation tool. Web sites are the places you visitas you make your way around the World Wide Web. Without any knowledge of HTML, you can use FrontPage to build and sophisticated Web site. (Although you don’t need to learn HTML to create Web pages with FrontPage, a bit of HTML knowledge certainly doesn’t hurt. In fact, learning HTML is well worth your time and you gain a greater understanding of Web publishing!)

Creating a New Web SiteGetting Started
To create your first FrontPage Web site, launch FrontPage by choosing Start(Programs(Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage launches. A new, blank Web Page named new_page_1.htm appears in the program’s main window.

Inserting Text
Insert some text into the page. (That is, start typing) not sure what to say? How about “Welcome to my First Web page”? You can always change the text later.Saving Web page
To save your web page, select Save from the File menu. In the Save in box select S drive (if you work on the campus. Otherwise you can save it wherever you want). Then save your Web page as filename.htm (Ex: index.htm, aboutme.htm, etc.). ***For uploading, please refer to HTML handouts.
Page Title
To insert a page title, select File(Save As(Change Title. In the Page Title boxtype a title and then click OK. Click Save. The title will appear in the browser’s title bar when you view a web page in a Web browser.

Changing text font, color and size
To change the size of selected text, on the Formatting toolbar chose a size from the Font Size list box.

To change the color of selected text, select Format(Font(Color and then click the desired color and click Apply.

Tochange the font of selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, choose a new font from the Font list box.

Changing background
You can apply a solid background color to your page or you can use a picture as the background of your page. Chose Format(Background. The Page properties dialog box appears, with the Background tab visible. Click the Background picture check box. Click Browse to selectfile from a list of files on your computer. Click OK to close the dialog box. (If you collect the background images in a folder named “Images”, it would be easy to use it for you!)

Bulleted and Numbered Lists
To create a bulleted or numbered list, place the cursor in the page where you want the list to begin. Select Format ( Bullets and Numbering(Click the Bullets button or the Numbering button.Click OK. Type the first list item and then press Enter. A bullet or number appears on the next line. Type your second item (and so on).

Inserting Horizontal Lines
To insert a horizontal line, place the cursor in the page where you want the line to appear and choose Insert (Horizontal Line. To customize how the line looks, in the page double click the horizontal line. In the Width area of thedialog box, type a value into the text box and click the Percent of Window or Pixels radio button. In the Height text box, type the line’s height in pixels. Choose a color from the Color List box. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Linking to a Web page or an existing file
To link an existing page, select the object you want to turn into a hyperlink. Select Insert from the menu and chooseHyperlink button. Click the Existing File or Web page icon. Depending on location of the page to which you want the hyperlink to lead, specify the hyperlink destination in the Address box (like this: http://www.google.com). Click OK. Hyperlink is born!
