THE GLADIATOR


There I was in the muddy walled cell. I felt a rat go by my feet, so I tallied one more stick to my chart.
“Today is your day, your chance”, a guy barked at my back


I turned and there was a tall guy with white robes and some medals.


This was my chance to live or die. I must live but if I die I have to die with my pride. I was getting readyusing the bloody equipment the guy was giving me. I handled a shield as old as my grand parents it had two spikes and other designs that I ignored. I grabled a bronze sword diped blood and rust. The guy placed me a helmet on my head with one spike in it and also hair stuck in it. Last, the guy helped me to put me on an armor but it was only for my left arm. While he was putting the armor he placedsome cloth beneath it so it wouldn’t scratch my arm.
I was nervous because most people from the cells that are in the sides of mine have never come back here and I have never herd from them. When they are stronger than me and if you saw me, I’m a wimp so if they didn’t make it how could I make it? But I had to have my hope and m faith so I said to the guy.


“Make the party start,”trying to make my fear be hidden with a fake smile but I’m a very bad liar.


“Follow me,” he howled while he instructed me where to go.


“Were are we going,” I asked puzzled


“You’ll see,” he answered in a creepy way


“Walk up straight 3 cell and turn right, you’ll see a ladder walk up to it,” he instructed as if he had practiced it 5,000 times.“Costa,” a college of mine blurted out


“Its Costa,” some other called out


“Look,” they all scram at once


“Good luck,” someone called out I couldn’t recognize him because he had his face seriously injured and I was turning right so I didn’t put that much attention


I saw the ladder up front I approached, “yeah, yeah, yeah”


Suddenly some chainsrattled right in front of me and a saw light for now 3 years


When I went trough the trap door I was standing in a circle like arena, the crowd was divided by men and women, rich and poor it was the coliseum. A crowd was cheering at the far end in my back, in front of me I could see a very wealthy observing me intently, he was in a throne surrounded by other nobles he was the emperor he wasclapping reluctantly.


“Baltor, Baltor, Baltor!” The crowd sang repeatedly “lions, lions, lions!”


I felt frightened, because I hate lions since I was a kid because I lion had bitten my brother while we were hunting in the wild, but I had to resist, had to be strong. But who was Baltor any way, I knew it won’t be long till I find out, momentarily some noisy chains rattled infront of me.
Meanwhile a trap door just like the one I went trough opened and gigantic guy standed clear of the trap door so it wouldn’t smack him in its way down. Instantly the crowd went from wild to crazy, they jumped up and down, pushed each other and yelled in a hi pitched way.


“Yeah!” They scram


“Beat him up!” I heard some one yell


The guy hadequipment that looked brand new the opposite of mine, his shield had several spikes it almost blinded me with it reflect of the sun, his spear was silver peaked and shiny, he used no armor to show of his six pack and everything, his helmet was gold I think.
But I had nothing to fear about or did I.
Baltor made a reverence to the emperor and the emperor gave him some simple instructions. I couldbarely understand it but…


“Kill him”, the emperor mouthed, Baltor in between the crowds cheering while he pointed at me
