INTRODUCTION
Rig site recovery of a core from inside an inner tube can be a very cumbersome operation.
Lengthy procedures, lead to exposure of the core which in turn canirreversibly degrade it.
Generally this process takes place whenever there is a requirement to visually examine the core
in its entirety before processing. This approach is systematically taken in case ofstructure
analysis and Core Imaging™ services.
Up to now, there were only two options to visually examine the core:
1. Remove the core from the inner tube.
2. Run a longitudinal saw along the innertube to cut it in two halves.
As mentioned above, both methods expose the core to damage either during the cutting process
or whilst handling it. Shock induced damage can occur at any time. Otherconsiderations are the
time the core will be exposed to the atmospheric conditions and the range of safety issues that
can prevail.
The introduction of the Half Moon Tube™ addresses in a satisfactoryway all the above points at
once. Using the Half Moon Tube™ will allow easy recovery of the core at the rig-site and safely
look at it in its full length almost instantaneously.

Half Moon TubeOPERATING PRINCIPLE
The Half Moon Tube™ is utilised with Corpro’s TSS™ system (see TSS Brochure). Recovery of
the core using the TSS system is already a dramatic improvement to the conventionaltechnology. Experience has already demonstrated that not only is the core quality largely
improved but core recovery is safer using the TSS.
1. On recovery, the 20 feet TSS section still containingthe core is lowered down on to the
catwalk through the V-door.
2. The core still contained in the half moon tube is pumped out of the TSS tubes.
3. The half moon tube is opened and the core can bevisually examined throughout its full
length.
