ABSTRACT
This study investigated the psychometric properties oC the Leaming and Study . Strategies Inventory LASSI (Weinstein, et al., 1987), that was translated into Spanish Language. The subjects for this study were 137 students enrolled in the last year of secondary level in a coeducational, bilingual, private school in Gustemala City. The reliability of theinstrument was estirnated by calculating tbe internal consistency. Predietive and construet valiaty were a1so estimated. The results showed that the inventory forthis group has a high internal consistency. Also, the LASSI was a significant predictor of academic achievement at the end of the school year, especially two oC the scales: self testing and concentration. Two groups which differed in the kind ofprogram in which they were registered: and advancedand aregularone, werecontrasted toestimate the construct validity. It was found that the two groups differed significantly; however, when I.Q. was controlled, the groups were no longer different. The results of this investigation were discussed in terms of the usefullness of the inventory for the school psychologist and for the students as well.Key words: LASSI. reliability, predictive validity, construet validity, academic

RESUMEN Este estudio investigó las propiedades psicométricas del inventario deEstrategias de Estudio y Aprendizaje (LASSI), traducido al español (Weinstein etal., 1987). Los sujetos fueron 137 estudiantes del último año de secundaria, de un colegio bilingüe, pri vado, coeducativo en Guatemala. Se estimó la confiabilidad calculando la consistencia interna del instrumento. Se estimó, asimismo, la validez predictiva y de constructo del inventario. Los resultados encontradosevidencian que el inventario, al ser aplicado a esta muestra, posee una alta consistencia interna. Además, el inventario demostró ser un predictor estadísticamente significativo del rendimiento académico al finalizar el año escolar, en particular dos de sus escalas: auto prueba y concentración. Se contrastaron dos grupos de estudiantes de dos tipos de programas: uno avanzado y otro regular, a fin deestimar la validez de constructo y se encontró que los grupos fueron significativamente diferentes; sin embargo, al controlar el CJ. de los estudiantes los grupos ya no difirieron. Los resultados se discutieron en función de la utilidad de este inventario para el orientador escolar y para los mismos estudiantes.
