Today, the gospel is not only telling the story of the young rich man.
It is also telling my story,
Your story
Our story.
At least the story of most of us.
I would like to fast forward thatpassage 2,000 years into the future, and see what would it look like today.
Let’s see.
Today, the young man would once again Jesus what he should do to obtain eternal life, or in other words to besaved. Then Jesus once again would reply. You need to follow the commandments and the church precepts.
And he would answer Master , I have received all sacraments, and obeyed all commandments, I’vebeen baptized, had my first communion, been confirmed, every now and then I come to confession, not a lot because, I do not sin much, you know I have never killed anybody or robbed a bank, so I do notoverdo this confession thing. I come to Mass all Sundays and days of obligation, or at least most of them.
You know Lord, I am a good person.
So what would Jesus reply?? What do you think??
Welldone my good and faithful servant?
NO….HE’LL REPLY:
IT’S NOT ENOUGH!!, AGAIN, THAT IS not enough!!
What then?
Are we required to sell everything WE OWN and give it to the poor? ARE WE?
Is it aboutthe money? Really? Is it?

It is not about the money!!!
It is about our attachment to the money!
It is about our attachment to our things!
It is about our attachment to our comfortzone!!

In the end is our attachment to ourselves, to our ego, to me…me…me…
IN THE FIRST READING WE HEARD THAT COMPARED TO GOD’S WISDOM GOLD AND SILVER ARE NOTHING.
BUT THE RICH MAN CHOSE HISRICHES, HIS WEALTH INSTEAD OF CHRIST!!
WHAT A BAD DEAL , WHAT A lousy DEAL
HE CHOSE NOTHING INSTEAD OF EVERYTHING… AND DID IT MAKE HIM HAPPY???
DID IT?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
HE WENT AWAY SAD…..HEWENT AWAY SAD…
SO, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS….THIS IS ABOUT CHOICES…. WE CAN HAVE AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE WEALTH AS POSSIBLE, BUT IF WE DO NOT CHOOSE TO FOLLOW JESUS, OVER OUR THINGS, OVER OUR COMFORT ZONE...
