Biography
Benito Juarez
St. Paul Guelatao, Mexico, 1806-Mexico City, 1872 Political Mexico. Son of Marcelino Juarez and Brigid Garcia, marriage humble Indian, Benito Juarez wasorphaned as a child and pursued his studies in his hometown. I was twenty when he joined the Institute of Sciences of Oaxaca, where he graduated in law. His concern for the social and in particular thesituation of the peasants led him to express his liberal views and actively participate in politics.
In 1831 Benito Juarez was elected alderman of the City of Oaxaca and the following year, a deputy tothe State Congress. The energy with which he defended the interests he represented in 1846 earned him to be deputy from Oaxaca to the Congress. A year later he was appointed governor of his homestate, a position he held until 1852. 1853, led by General Santa Anna, was forced into exile in Cuba. Their laws, which inspired the 1857 Constitution, of a liberal, triggered the reaction ofconservatives, who delivered the following year in the plan of Tacubaya.
1861 promises to Juarez determined the withdrawal of the first two powers, but France, in collusion with the conservatives, invadedMexico in 1863. 1867, restored the Federal Republic and, while giving effect to the reform laws, adopted a series of measures to strengthen presidential authority. 1872 Juarez was reelected again.Biography
