Figure skater Sonja Henie was born on this date in 1912. Ten-time world skating champion, Henie won Olympic gold in 1928, 1932 and 1936, and was the first woman to incorporate ballet moves into skating routines. She introduced the style of female skaters wearing short skirts and white boots in the rink. Born in Norway, Henie moved to the U.S. after her final Olympics appearance andbegan appearing in ice carnivals and in movies. In her day, she was one of the world's wealthiest women.
