1. What is multilingualism? SI
Multilingualism is the ability of an individual speaker or communities to use multiple languages. Contrast with monolingualism that is the ability to use only one language.
It is the act of using a lot of languages, either by an individual speaker or by a community of speakers. Multilingual speakers outnumber monolingual speakers in the world'spopulation. Multilingualism is becoming a social phenomenon governed by the needs of globalization and cultural openness.
In linguistics, first language acquisition is closely related to the concept of a "native speaker". According to a view widely held by linguists, a native speaker of a given language has in some respects a level of skill which a second (or subsequent) language learner can hardlyreliably accomplish. 


2. Which factors can influence third language acquisition (TLA)?

The sociolinguistic context in which they take place.
The psycholinguistic processes involved in TLA.
The linguistic characteristics of the languages involved.
The pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning several languages.


3. What is trilingual/multilingual education? SI

Multilingual educationis different from bilingual educational. In multilingual and trilingual education more than one language is used as the medium of instruction, but multilingual education can present additional challenges. It means that educational programmes that use other languages than the first languages as media of instruction, the aim for communicative proficiency in more than two languages.
Multilingualeducation can take different forms because it is necessary linked to the sociolinguistic context in which it takes places and has to take into account the relative status and use of the languages involved. Finally, multilingual education is the development of multilingual competence with the help of the education system.



4. Is age important for second/foreign language learning? SI

No,because it is suitable for any age learn a second language Nonetheless there are a hypothesis that children can learn languages faster than adults. Is it, because the children probably are more incentive to communicate and are placed in more situations where they are forced to speak the second language than are adults. So, is asserted that there are different requirements to communicate as a child thancommunicate as a adult. The child doesn’t have to learn as much as an adult to achieve competence in communicating. Therefore, the illusion that the child learns more quickly than adult or adolescent learners to perform better than young children, because maybe be more difficult for children don’t have access to the memory techniques and other strategies that have the adults.

In conclusion theoptimal way to learn SL is to begin at birth and learn two languages simultaneously.







5. What is the common underlying proficiency? SI

According to Cummins, the common underlying proficiency is:

The skills and knowledge that the subject has. These skills and knowledge are common to all the languages the child knows and uses

The skills needed to communicate and use languagein different social situations sometimes are not tied to a particular language but the essence of human beings and the social and cognitive set.

This psychological reality in multilingual or bilingual speakers easily explains the ability to learn more languages from the already learned. This means that learning and skills common to all developed with increasing strength and contribute to agreater ability to represent the world to communicate with each other.

6. Explain the linguistic interdependence hypothesis

The interdependence hypothesis is related to common underlying proficiency. This hypothesis states the relationship between languages ​​a person knows.
