Issues In Multiculturalism (Exchange Students In Ireland)
It must be highlighted the difficulties encountered while working with numbers because most of thesources reveal different ones or there are not reliable reviews of the figures we are working with.
Methodology:
The methodology used was the following: first comparing the figures from last year to those from 2005/2006 or, if it was not numbers, to other academic year instead of this. Secondly, trying to analyze the reasons of the increases or the decreases of international student numbers inIreland, depending on factors like gender, or country of origin and characterization of international students. Also, explaining the readiness of Ireland at the time or receiving International Students and the associations that work together to move Educational policy forward, like High Level Group. Finally, explaining the findings encountered by this research, related to the analysis part of thereview.
Findings:
Thanks to this report, these different findings have emerged while analyzing the different numbers of students that come from different locations to study in Ireland. In addition to this, the gender roles also have generated some findings:
* EU and European student numbers have risen.
* Also, Abroad Students figures have increased by a 20%, most of them from theUSA.
* The countries of origin that send more international students to Ireland are: the USA, France, China, the UK, Germany, Spain, Malaysia and India.
* China, Spain, Malaysia and the UK have suffered a decrease in the number of students that they dent to Ireland.
* In order to increase the availability of places for Irish students, the importance of medicine has decreased.* The number of female students is higher than the number of male students.
* Brazil has tripled its numbers in sending international students to study in Ireland.
Analysis:
Before looking at the matter of International Students in Higher Education Institutions, it is important to know the international students’ background: where do they come from? How do they feel in their hostcountry? What is the situation or Ireland at the time of receiving international students?
The readiness of Ireland at the time of receiving International Students:
Ireland is not generally considered a significant player in the international education field, in spite of being prominent for very many years as a primary destination for English language students. However, since 2002, Irish HigherEducation Institutions have been experiencing a remarkable growth in international student numbers. This growth tends to be represented by a general perception that international students are a very little portion of the total conscription, given the very high participation rates of Irish Students in higher education.
By the moment, there is a feeling of optimism around international education inIreland: the mandatory agency Education Ireland has not been established, but important and positive developments have risen over the last two years to move education policy forward, as the High Level Group (HLG).
