Chapter III-Methodology Design

This is quantitative study because the analysis will be according to the participant’s response to a questionnaire also known as a survey research that will be administered to a group of English teachers as well as students in the Junior High school level. The scale that will be used for this study is the Likert scale. This type of attitude scale is usedwhen respondents indicate their agreement or disagreement with a series of statements about the object of the attitude or belief in question. Each choice is given a numerical value, and the total score is presumed to indicate the attitude or believe in question (Fraenkel & Wallen, 2000, p.666).

Participants
The selection of the participants will be a purposive sampling. Fraenkel & Wallen (2000)defines it as a non random sample selected because prior knowledge suggests it is representative, or because those selected have the needed information. The researcher will select the Junior High school English teachers from the San Juan Region from districts I, II, and III. The selection of the student participants will be twenty five students from the San Juan II district from the eighth grade. The selection of the student participants will be a convenience sampling.

Instruments
The instruments that will be used for this research is a survey. According to Fraenkel & Wallen (2000) a survey provides a quantitative or numeric description of some fraction of the population. The scale that will be used for this study will be a Likert scale. The Likert scale is a rating scale measuringthe strength of agreement with a clear statement. The attitude can be classified as highly favorable or unfavorable towards a determined conduct. The items that will be used in the surveys were prepared according to the opinions, attitudes, concerns, beliefs, knowledge, and points of views that teachers have expressed throughout workshops, meeting, conferences and conventions, which the researcherhas participated during his ten years of experience as an English teacher. The researcher will make a correlation between the research questions and the instrument items. There will be a pilot group that will help validate the instrument.

Construction of Survey
The survey will be divided in two parts.
Part one will deal with the demographic questions such as age, sex, experience, certificationstatus and educational background.
Part two is a questionnaire. It is made of13 cloze statements.

Procedure
The procedure for this research will be divided into three phases (phase I, II, III).
Phase I will be the administrative phase. This phase includes teachers concerns about the English reading textbooks and the relevance they have for their students. During this phase theresearcher will construct and then validate the survey by selecting a group of 10 English teachers and ten students from the Junior High school level. The researcher will ask for the Department of Education’s authorization in order to conduct this study.

Phase II- Administration of questionnaire.
In order to administrate the survey the researcher will go to the Junior High School of the San Juan regiondistrict I, II, and III and personally hand in the questionnaire to the English teachers. A self administered questionnaire will be the mode of data collection for the teacher participants for the San Juan Region I, II, and III. The researcher will select a school from the San Juan II District and will administer the questionnaire to twenty five students. The mode of data collection that will beused for the student participants of a school of the San Juan II District will be a direct administration to a group of students. The researcher will have access to all the members of a particular group in one place. This will be a convenience sample.

Phase III- Data analysis
The questionnaires will be collected and grouped according to frequency distribution and central tendency and...
