KOREAN WAVE

INTRODUCTION

The Korean Wave is a term that refers to the rise in popularity of contemporary culture of South Korea in other countries in mid-1999.
It is also called "Hallyu". The term originated in China in mid-1999 by Beijing journalists startled by the growing popularity of South Koreans and South Korean broadcasts in China.
This phenomenon specifically in Peru began around2000 with dramas such as "All About Eve", "A Jewel in the Palace", "A wish on stars" among others.
These dramas that became popular among viewers not only liked by its plot but also for the music that they presented, so as not only Korean dramas began to have fans but also Korean music.
In my case I started to follow this phenomenon a couple of years ago, through a series of drama that weretransmitted at the time. I only got caught by the plot but it had started listening to the songs that were used as background music.
And now we can see that the number of fans of this Korean wave, growing rapidly, not only in South America but also in Europe, North and Central America, and of course throughout Asia.

CONTENT
I personally believe that the rapid spread of the Korean wave can beexplained taking into account certain points.
The importance of Korean dramas as key to the Korean wave, as I mentioned the dramas were the ones who started this Korean wave, because these were released not only Korean music but also their customs, traditional dress, their typical food and language.
Therefore it is important to emphasize the role that these dramas were in the spread of the Koreanwave, also the growth of companies that produce and increasing the production of Korean dramas as well as its main export markets such as Europe and America.
Another very important point to consider is the great impact of k-pop worldwide, via the Internet.
Internet was another fundamental key to the spread of the Korean wave, since by this means spread dramas, Korean music and movies. And notonly the fans can see these on the internet but also can obtain information from their favorite artists through the artists' official websites, pages of fan clubs or blogs written by other fans. In addition also the fans can see Korean channel programs. For example in my case I can see Korean programs like talk shows, variety shows and other programs, of channels such as KBS, MBC, etcetera. Iwould be impossible to see on television because these channels are not transmitted by cable television, except for CableAndino here in Huaraz.
Internet today is still the most widespread of the Korean wave, as it is a very accessible and by which all fans worldwide can be connected with Korea. So I think this is the greatest tool that Korea has to keep expanding the Korean wave.
We must alsoconsider the support from the government and the people of Korea. The economic impact of the Korean wave persuaded the government to support this growth.
Growth of the Korean economy has been highly visible in recent years thanks to the expansion of Korean culture through Korean wave, since this expansion began the consumption of various products of this country. Including not only has dramas,movies and music if not also food, clothing traditional, Korean martial arts and increased interest in learning the Korean language.
All this made the government and all Korean citizens support and evaluate the Korean wave, they saw that gives them to help in this would have many economic benefits.
All this economic growth achieved in part by Korea as a country starts to emerge.
This economicgrowth especially noted in the entertainment industry.
As a last point to explain the rapid spread of the Korean wave, I'll talk about the interest aroused worldwide food, clothing and Korean.
Some years ago, Korean food was not known in many countries where today you can find Korean restaurants.
Now America, Europe and Asia can enjoy South Korean food, without the need to go to that country....
